PMOS

Polyendocrine Metabolic Ovarian Syndrome (PMOS) formerly known as Polycystic Ovarian Syndrome (PCOS), is an endocrine and metabolic disorder that affects 1 in 8 that’s more than 170 million women worldwide.

PMOS looks different for every individual. What works for one will not work for another. There is no “normal” or “typical” experience that women will face with PMOS. Thus, there are times when it can feel lonely and exhausting process to navigate. But you are not alone in this journey. You don’t have to feel as if it’s an invisible struggle. Megan Hoffman Counseling is dedicated to providing a space that allows individuals to process and express their experiences while feeling supported and encouraged as they navigate their health journeys.

PMOS Impacts on Mental Health

The impacts of PMOS can be complex, adversely, and widely different for each individual. Women are not just having physical affects but can also experience social and mental affects from this diagnosis. As women are fighting and advocating for the medical impacts they are experiencing, an increase and continuous struggle with their mental health and body image is ongoing years later. For a great deal of women, it can be an invisible struggle due to some of the stigma and often lack of knowledge surrounding the diagnosis. Some impacts can include:

  • Anxiety, depression, and choric stress

  • Body image issues and low self-esteem

  • Relationship and fertility concerns

  • Irregular moods

  • Eating disorders or disordered eating patterns

  • Social withdraw and feeling isolation/invisible

  • Constant fatigue and lack of interest

  • Negative thoughts and thinking patterns

Megan Hoffman Counseling is here to help!

You do not have to navigate these hardships alone. You are worth being heard and seen through it all, even the aspects that feel so invisible and lonely. Together we will discuss what this journey and experience has been like for you, and help you feel more empowered, confident, and resilient as you continue to navigate all that it entails. I would be honored to be a small part of your journey!
